Abdul Latiff Ahmad said Rafizi Ramli’s claims were aimed at smearing his reputation and inciting the people against him.PETALING JAYA: PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli will be giving his statement to the police this afternoon regarding the claims he raised about the delayed RM9 billion littoral combat ship (LCS) project.
He said he would be at the Sentul district police headquarters (IPD) at 3pm.
Rafizi previously claimed that a woman named Zainab Mohd Salleh was involved in the LCS scandal and that the woman was special functions minister Abdul Latiff Ahmad’s second wife.
Latiff has repeatedly denied Rafizi’s claims and has challenged the latter to prove that he was married to Zainab – with Latiff’s aide filing a police report against Rafizi at the Dang Wangi IPD over his claims.

Latiff said Rafizi’s allegations, including that he had a wife who was linked to two companies involved in the misappropriation of funds in the project, was aimed at smearing his reputation and inciting the people against him.
The police recorded Latiff’s statement on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Sentul police chief Beh Eng Lai said that Rafizi was being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) 1998 for inappropriate use of network services.
Latiff was previously reported to have said that he played no part in the LCS contract in 2014, as he was deputy defence minister from 2009 to 2013, when the ministry was headed by Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He also denied claims that his family members had benefited from defence contracts when he was in the ministry.
The LCS project, costing RM9 billion, involved the construction of six frigates for the navy.
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) released its findings on the project last month, stating that none of the ships had been completed or delivered despite RM6.08 billion having been disbursed so far.
Latiff, who is Mersing MP, quit Umno in December 2018 and joined Bersatu two months later. He was appointed rural development minister in March 2020 by then prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin under the Perikatan Nasional-led government prior to his current Cabinet portfolio in the Ismail Sabri Yaakob administration. - FMT
