Cops To Probe Alleged Assault Against Teluk Intan Amanah Leaders
Perak police have confirmed receiving a report linked to allegations of assault against two Teluk Intan Amanah leaders, believed to have caused one of the victims to faint from its impact.
Hilir Perak district police chief Kamarudin Mat Salleh in a text message to Malaysiakini said a report was lodged under Section 323 of the Penal Code.
"An order to investigate has been obtained from the deputy public prosecutor," said Kamarudin on the incident that allegedly took place at Hotel Rivertel, Teluk Intan, on Oct 14.
Malaysiakini understands that a man who is a former political secretary to Perak Amanah was accused of shoving the Teluk Intan Amanah women's chief and punching the Teluk Intan Amanah vice-chief.
According to the police report sighted by this portal, both victims and eight others went to the venue to meet with the National Complaints committee, but only the Teluk Intan Amanah vice-chief was allowed in to answer queries regarding the division's formation.
At around 9.30pm, while they were gathered outside the meeting room's door, the man allegedly shoved Teluk Intan Amanah women's chief until she fell, and punched the face of Teluk Intan Amanah vice-chief.
Aside from holding the division vice-chief's post, the second victim is also the Teluk Intan Amanah women's vice-chief and the younger sister of the first victim.
According to a statement on Amanah Teluk Intan women's wing Facebook yesterday, the second victim had fainted while in the elevator and taken in an ambulance to the Teluk Intan Hospital.
Following that, the first victim had lodged a report on the same day at the Teluk Intan police station.
According to a witness who declined to be named, the state leadership to date has failed to respond to the alleged incident.
"So far absolutely no response. Because the person who assaulted was the (former) political secretary to Asmuni Awi, Perak Amanah chairperson.
"So we didn't get any support from the state leaders," claimed the witness.
According to the witness who also gave a statement to the police yesterday, the victims will also proceed to file civil action over the incident.
"[...] we will instruct our lawyers to send a letter to the investigating officer requesting a CCTV recording (of the incident)," the witness added.
Meanwhile, Malaysiakini's attempts to contact the alleged perpetrator have so far failed. - Mkini
