Cops Seek To Remand 7 Over Attack On Police Station

(Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Police will seek a remand order for seven individuals who were arrested this morning in connection with the attack at the Ulu Tiram police station, which left two policemen dead.
Johor police chief M Kumar said five of the seven detained this morning were family members of the suspect, aged between 19 and 62, Bernama reported.
The other two are students from higher learning institutions who are believed to be linked to the attack.
The two policemen killed were identified as constables Ahmad Azza Fahmi Azhar and Syafiq Ahmad Said. Another policeman was injured.
The masked attacker, who was also shot dead, is believed to have been a member of the extremist group Jemaah Islamiyah, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said.
Razarudin also said police had identified more than 20 members of Jemaah Islamiyah – the terror group behind the deadly 2002 bomb attacks in Bali that killed more than 200 people – following this morning’s incident.
This evening, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, extended his condolences to the families of two policemen killed in the attack, describing them as national heroes.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also called for action to be taken against those attempting to create chaos in Malaysia.
“We do not compromise on matters of peace; the government will be firm. Strong measures will be taken to stop this madness (violence), and I fully support the steps taken by the police,” he said.
Singapore also condemned the attack and said it was monitoring the situation.
It advised Singaporeans in or travelling to Malaysia to exercise vigilance and take precautions to ensure their personal safety. - FMT
