Cops Quiz Anwar Wan Azizah Over March To Parliament
Police have questioned Port Dickson MP Anwar Ibrahim and his wife Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is also the Pandan MP, over a gathering of parliamentarians last Monday (Aug 2) as they tried to march to Parliament but were blocked by police.
Police questioned the duo at the PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya, Selangor at around 11am and the session lasted for around 90 minutes.
"Statements were given, the police were cooperative, Anwar and Wan Azizah were cooperative.
"We will wait. I think other MPs are also being investigated at the police stations," said Anwar's lawyer Sankara Nair to journalists outside the PKR headquarters after the questioning.
Sankara said all the questions were related to the event of August 2.
The duo was investigated, among others, under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for misuse of network facilities and regulations related to the movement control order.
Sankara said the investigating officer was from the Dang Wangi district police headquarters but the statements were recorded by personnel from the Bukit Aman police headquarters.
Including Anwar and Wan Azizah, police have questioned a total of 16 MPs.
Last Monday, opposition MPs gathered at Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur before trying to make their way to the Parliament building some 2km away on foot.
Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had suspended the Parliament sitting, citing Covid-19 cases.
However, opposition MPs who accused him of trying to obstruct Parliament amid an uncertain majority were insistent about going to Parliament despite the suspension.
They were met with riot police. - Mkini
