Cops In Sensitive Divisions Must Now Declare Assets

(Bernama pic)KUALA LUMPUR: Police officers serving in “sensitive” divisions are now required to declare their assets and those of their spouses to maintain the integrity of the force.
Bukit Aman criminal investigation department (CID) director Shuhaily Zain said an audit would be conducted regularly to determine whether the assets declared were in proportion with the officers’ means.
“We have initiated the directive for all officers in sensitive positions to declare their assets individually.
“If someone has a valid reason, I won’t prohibit them from buying a car. If the car was bought with legitimate money, who am I to stop them from using that vehicle?” he said at a press conference today.
These “sensitive” positions are said to refer to those involved in the intelligence, operations and records division (D4), anti-vice, gambling and secret societies division (D7), as well as the CID chiefs in every district.
Last week, Shuhaily issued a stern warning to his colleagues in the CID unit against colluding with criminal syndicates for money.
The Bukit Aman CID chief reportedly said he learnt that some police officers were receiving money from these syndicates in exchange for information about investigations.
He said such actions had to be “seriously looked at” by commanding officers and supervisors in all CIDs across the country. - FMT
