Cops Arrest Insurance Agent For Obstruction Insulting Police Personnel In Pj
PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested an insurance agent for obstruction and insulting police personnel here.
The man, who was issued a compound notice for not wearing a mask at a public area, berated police in a video which was uploaded on social media.
Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said a video of the incident was brought to the attention of police at around 1.50pm on Tuesday (July 20).
"The 15min, 42sec video was shared on Facebook page Info Jenayah Terkini by user Alyf Malik, showing a local man expressing his dissatisfaction at being issued a compound notice.
"Our investigations showed that the man was issued a RM1,500 compound notice for not wearing a face mask at a petrol station here," he said in a statement on Wednesday (July 21).
He said the suspect also provoked the police and disputed their actions, while also posting a video of the incident on social media.
"After being issued the compound notice, the suspect continued the video feed from inside his vehicle and insulted the police with harsh language," he said, adding that police also received a report on the video.
"At around 10pm on the same day, we arrested the 29-year-old suspect at an apartment in Bandar Sri Damansara.
"During the arrest, the suspect once again recorded a video and posted it on social media," he said, adding that the man would be remanded to assist with further investigations.
He said the case was being investigated for obstructing a civil servant from dispensing their duties; insulting a person with intent to break the public peace; making remarks with intent to cause or likely to cause fear or alarm to the public; insulting or cursing someone; and misuse of network facilities.
ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin advised the public to cooperate with the police in dispensing their duties and comply with standard operating procedures under the National Recovery Plan.
"The public is also reminded not to make any speculation on the video, as it could lead to unhealthy issues," he said.
In the video, the man said he did not want to wear a mask because he believed double masking could lead to bacterial pneumonia.
He also told police that he refused to be vaccinated because he had read that other countries such as the United Kingdom were declining vaccines.
He went on to tell the police that he earned an honest living and held a degree in economics.
He also claimed that he would take the police to court. - Star
