Contributors Gather At Epf Branch Demand Further I Citra Withdrawal
A group of 10 Employees Provident Fund (EPF) contributors have failed in their attempt to meet the agency's head to object to the government's move to end the withdrawal from their EPF savings via the i-Citra scheme.
The group’s spokesperson Khairul Anuar Othman expected a meeting with EPF chief executive officer Amir Hamzah Azizan after seeing an EPF officer at its branch at Jalan Raja Laut, in Kuala Lumpur earlier today.
Khairul claimed to represent other EPF contributors who were in distress due to the recent severe flooding caused by torrential downpours.
He also urged Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz to listen to what the contributors have to say.
"Listen to the people’s grievances and the voices of the people. We are the contributors who suffered in hardship," he said.
"The RM1,000 cash aids from the government and RM600 zakat aids are not enough to continue our living," he was quoted as saying by the Free Malaysia Today.
Khairul said the group may follow up with other actions including sending a memorandum to the prime minister at Parliament in the near future if their voices continue to fall on deaf ears.
The group, however, did not hold a protest nor did they march from Sogo Shopping Mall, which is a five-minute walk from the EPF branch.
The portal reported that a planned protest this morning was cancelled at the last minute as the organiser failed to obtain a police permit.
The organiser initially planned to march from Sogo Shopping Mall to the EPF branch. Police presence was seen along Jalan Raja Laut.
Ismail Sabri reportedly said the government has no intention to allow those hit by floods to make EPF withdrawals under the i-Citra scheme.
Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki recently said those hit by floods want the government to allow another round of RM10,000 EPF withdrawals. - Mkini
