Former deputy transport minister Aziz Kaprawi says MCO 2.0 has not seen a drop in Covid-19 cases and has instead affected the economy.PETALING JAYA: The lack of cooperation between the health and international trade and industry ministries is a clear sign that Putrajaya has failed to manage the pandemic and protect the public’s health, says former deputy transport minister Aziz Kaprawi.
In a Facebook post, Aziz said the second movement control order (MCO 2.0) has not decreased the number of daily infections and has instead affected the economy.
“This means MCO 2.0, which began on Jan 13, does not carry any meaning and can even be deemed ineffective because it has failed to achieve its two goals,” he said.
Aziz urged the government to be more transparent by providing information on the cluster with the highest infection rate, and to take firm action to contain the spread.
Aziz Kaprawi.According to him, the people’s negative perception towards the government has increased with the latest lockdown as many believed it was imposed to support a declaration of emergency.
He said Malaysians and frontliners both feel like they are losing while battling the pandemic.
“I do not care for the government’s real intentions behind the implementation of MCO 2.0, but what’s important for me and the people is that we see Malaysia win the war against Covid-19,” he said.
Malaysia reported 3,585 new Covid-19 infections and 11 deaths yesterday.
The number of active cases stands at 40,574, including 280 in intensive care and 111 requiring respiratory assistance. - FMT
