Conclude Adib Inquest Or Call New Witnesses Decision Next Week
ADIB INQUEST | The coroner's court in Shah Alam will decide on July 24 whether to conclude the inquest on firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim's death or summon new witnesses
This was ruled by the coroner Rofiah Mohamad today after the inquest heard the testimony of its 30th witness Amir Radzi Abd Ghani, who is a physics specialist from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Mara
Earlier, Amir reiterated that the weight of the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) van and Muhammad Adib should have been excluded from another witness Dr Ahmad Hafizam's analysis, while showing the court the calculations force of an impact between the two
This followed proceedings yesterday where Amir disagreed with Hafizam's theory that the broken ribs Adib suffered were caused by him being hit by an EMRS van during a riot near the Seafield Temple, Subang, last year

When pressed by Adib's lawyer and the conducting officer to comment on various hypothetical situations that could have led to Adib’s injuries, Amir repeatedly declined to do so, saying he needed specific details for his calculations and some questions were beyond his expertise to answer
Meanwhile, the conducting officer Faten Hadni Khairuddin said that if the court decides to get a third pathologist to review the opinions given by the previous two pathologists, the deputy public prosecutor will suggest that the opinions be referred to the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC)
“We will recommend seeking opinions from MMC. It would then convene a committee comprising a group of pathologists and suggest who will be the best person to be the third witness,” she told the media after the proceeding today

Meanwhile, Rofiah she would also decide next week whether to allow Adib’s family’s ex parte application to be heard
This is in relation to the family’s application yesterday to initiate committal proceedings against Attorney-General Tommy Thomas for contempt
The family accused Thomas of being in contempt of court by this chamber’s statement in an April 3 affidavit that Adib’s death was not caused by being beaten, although the coroner’s court has yet to rule on the matter

The inquest was ordered after two conflicting versions of the cause of his death emerged
One version claimed he was hit by a vehicle while the other said he was beaten by a mob
Adib's family is represented by Syazlin Mansor, Suzana Atan, Mazlifah Ayib, Fadzilatul Isma Ahmad Rafngah, and Afiq Zainal Abidin. - Mkini
