Claims Of Camps In Dap Nothing Extraordinary Says Loke
DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook said claims of factions within the party were simply aimed at disrupting the harmony in DAP.
PETALING JAYA: DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook has sought to play down talk of camps existing within the party, saying the spread of such claims ahead of its party elections next month were normal.
Loke said such claims were simply aimed at disrupting the harmony within DAP, but he was unperturbed and will continue to carry out his duties as usual, Bernama reported.
“It’s normal for various claims to make the rounds during party elections. The DAP leadership is a strong and united team so there’s no need to entertain such claims.
“These claims are coming from external parties who have nothing to do with DAP. Some are even envious of DAP and are our political rivals.
“All our leaders are mature. There’s no need to squabble. I myself didn’t even know that there were camps (in DAP),” he was quoted as saying.
DAP will hold its central executive committee (CEC) elections on March 16.
Pundits had expected this to be one of the Pakatan Harapan component’s most intense elections, with Cabinet posts on the line for the winning candidates.
Analysts said there appeared to be two factions in the DAP polls, one led by Loke and another led by the party’s national chairman, Lim Guan Eng.
Speculation surrounding the DAP elections intensified after its organising secretary, Steven Sim, was heckled by an aide to Lim at a dinner in Penang. The aide later apologised for his actions against Sim, who is also the newly elected Penang DAP chief.
There were later claims of a move within the party to oust Lim from the CEC.
Four DAP veterans – Tan Kok Wai, Fong Kui Lun, Phee Boon Poh and M Kula Segaran – have also decided not to contest in the CEC polls, saying it was time for new leaders to take over the leadership. - FMT
