China Urges Malaysia To Reject Cold War Mentality Amid Us Calls
Chinese President Xi Jinping urged Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to reject the Cold War mentality in their meeting in Beijing yesterday.
This comes amid the US stressing a need for “Cold War”-era mechanisms with China earlier today as they attempt to determine whether it is possible for the two countries to re-establish constructive diplomacy.
“President Xi invited Malaysia to jointly develop a strong and outstanding civilisation, as well as reject the Cold War mentality by playing chess with any countries.
“We agreed to chart a new course in Malaysia-China relations and continue to strengthen cooperation between the two friendly countries,” Anwar said in a statement on his Facebook last night.
Aside from closer ties between the two countries, he said they also touched on issues involving trade and economic relations as well as development projects that must be continued.
Prime Minister Anwar IbrahimAnwar said he spoke to Xi on the steps and strategies of the Chinese government in confronting and resolving the issue of poverty in China, which is now bearing fruit as almost 800 million people have been lifted from poverty in the East Asian country.
Meanwhile, he said Xi spoke to him about the Madani Malaysia vision, which the Chinese premier said was in line with his desire to share the prosperity and development of the country.
Anwar said he also invited Xi to visit Malaysia later in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the Malaysia-China diplomatic ties.
Anwar is currently on a three-day official visit to China, which started on March 30.
His maiden visit to China since taking office last November is expected to open a new chapter in strengthening the strategic relationship between Kuala Lumpur and Beijing more comprehensively.
