Chicken Slices In Controversial Sandwich Have Halal Certificate Claims Producer

SHAH ALAM: The chicken slices used in the controversial "ham & cheese sandwich" products have a valid halal certificate issued by the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim), claims producer Shake and Bake Cafe Sdn Bhd.
The producer said that other ingredients used to produce the sandwich included bread and cheese, Malay language daily Sinar Harian reports.
"The chicken slices used in the sandwich have a halal certificate.
"On Jan 10, at noon, officers from the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry, together with Jakim, visited the factory and the case is currently under investigation by the relevant authorities.
"We promise to fully cooperate with the ministry and Jakim in this investigation," thecompany said on Wednesday (Jan 15).
Earlier, it was reported that KK Super Mart had taken legal action against one of its food suppliers after a sandwich produced by the latter was found to have misused a Malaysian halal certificate.
“KK Super Mart has taken action by filing a police report on Jan 11 over this matter,” the firm said in a statement on Monday (Jan 13).
KK Super Mart has also stopped all business dealings with Shake and Bake Cafe, the company added.
“Additionally, KK Super Mart has instructed its legal team David Gurupatham & Koay (Advocates & Solicitors) to issue a letter of demand, dated Jan 10, 2025, to Shake And Bake Cafe Sdn Bhd concerning this issue,” the company said.
A sandwich pack, which had been labeled as a "ham & cheese sandwich" sold at a KK Concept Store in Universiti Malaya had caused an uproar last week when it displayed the Malaysian halal logo. - Star
