(Bernama pic)IPOH: Pakatan Harapan’s Hulu Kinta assemblyman Muhamad Arafat Varisai Mahamad, who had shocked the Perak assembly by pulling out a fresh, whole chicken, was ordered to leave the hall today for defying instructions.
Assembly speaker Mohamad Zahir Abdul Khalid gave the PKR representative the marching orders when Arafat refused to sit but continued to speak when asked to stop by deputy speaker Khalil Yahaya earlier.
The commotion started when Arafat said he was not satisfied with the reply given by state domestic trade and consumer affairs, national integration and civil society committee chairman Abdul Yunus Jamahri on the issue of the increasing prices of goods when winding-up the debate.
Yunus had said that he would give a written reply to the question raised by Arafat as the debate had exceeded the allotted time.
Khalil, who was handling the proceedings at the time, ordered Arafat to sit down or leave for a break at the canteen.
However, Zahir, who came in to replace Khalil at the sitting, decided to order Arafat to leave the hall and he did so, accompanied by the sergeant-at-arms.
On Tuesday, Arafat had shocked the assembly when he took out a fresh chicken from a plastic bag and held it while debating the issue of rising prices of goods, especially chicken.
He said the chicken was a gift for state plantations, agriculture and food industry committee chairman Razman Zakaria, who is also the assemblyman for Semanggol. - FMT
