The four men have been detained under a security law for allegedly supporting the defunct Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.KUALA LUMPUR: The Sessions Court here today transferred the case of four individuals detained under a security law for allegedly supporting the defunct Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) to the High Court
The four are A Kalaimughilan, who was represented by Yoges M Verasuntharam; V Suresh Kumar and DAP assemblymen M Gunasekaran, who were represented by Ramkarpal Singh; and businessman B Subramaniam, who was represented by S Selvam
When Kalaimughilan applied for bail on grounds that he was unwell, Judge Rozina Ayob rejected it, saying they should all apply for bail at the High Court
Deputy public prosecutor Aslinda Ahad, who appeared with another DPP, Azlina Rasdi, for the prosecution told the court that the four should apply for bail at the High Court. Aslinda also said bail should only be given when a defendant was extremely ill
Rozina then said it would be much faster if the bail application was heard at the High Court as it could take up to 12 days if heard in the Sessions Court
“In fairness of justice for all parties, the court allows the case to be transferred to the High Court and bail application to be heard there. It’s speedier if it is heard before a High Court judge.”The four were charged, along with eight others, in separate sessions courts on Oct 29 and 31 with having links to the now-defunct separatist group of Sri Lanka
The 12 were detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) following the crackdown on alleged LTTE sympathisers in October. - FMT
