(PDRM pic)KUALA LUMPUR: Four people, including a four-year-old boy, were injured after the car they were travelling in crashed while trying to escape from police at the Putra Heights interchange on the Elite Expressway, early this morning.
Subang Jaya police chief Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said the accident occurred at 1.05am when a police car on routine patrol around USJ spotted a Proton Satria being driven in a suspicious manner.
“The police patrol car trailed the vehicle, then sounded the siren and flashed the blue light to order the driver of the car to stop for inspection, but it sped away and hit the Seafield toll barricade.
“Upon arriving at the junction of interchange 605 Putra Heights, the vehicle suddenly swerved. The driver then lost control and crashed onto the road shoulder,” Wan Azlan said.
Apart from the four-year-old child, there were two men and a woman in the car.
Wan Azlan said the two men and the woman were seriously hurt, while the child suffered minor injuries. They were taken to Putrajaya Hospital for treatment.
Preliminary investigations found that the vehicle had previously been reported missing in Shah Alam.
“The three suspects have past criminal records, with one of them wanted in a drug case in the Hulu Selangor district,” Wan Azlan said.
The case is being investigated under Section 186 and Section 279 of the Penal Code, for obstructing public servants from discharging their duties and driving recklessly on public roads.
