Called Up By Disciplinary Board Pontian Mca Chief Slams Wee
Pontian MCA chief Tee Siew Kiong expressed shock at being summoned by the party’s disciplinary committee for a hearing tomorrow (April 22).
He previously lashed out at party leaders for giving up one of its traditional seats to Umno in the recent Johor snap polls.
He urged MCA president Wee Ka Siong to prioritise his party's grassroots leaders and morale of members instead of pressuring those within the same party.
“I was confident that my beloved MCA will always know the difference between what is right and wrong.
“But the reality is, I am very sad and shocked after receiving a letter from the MCA disciplinary committee asking me to attend a hearing on April 22 at noon,” Tee (above) said in a statement today.
He said the hearing stems from his press conference on Feb 25 where he claimed to have merely apologised to supporters and voters, and explained why he was not named as a candidate in the Johor polls.
“Hence, I am certain I have not done anything wrong,” he said, adding that he also helped other BN candidates campaign during the state election.
Tee, who is seen to be aligned with former MCA president Chua Soi Lek, had contested in Pulai Sebatang in every general election since 2004.
He represented the constituency between 2004 and 2018 until his defeat by Amanah.
Under a seat-swap arrangement in the Johor election, MCA surrendered Parit Yaani and Pulai Sebatang to Umno. In return, Umno gave MCA Puteri Wangsa.
Someone who ‘avoids problems’
Tee warned Wee not to be too pleased with MCA’s performance in the Johor polls as the general election is coming soon.
“The president should be prioritising service to the rakyat, instead of wasting time and energy targeting and pressuring those within the same party.
“The president should be boosting the morale of party members and grassroots leaders because the appointment of Johor candidates who do not hold any positions in the party has disappointed them,” Tee said.
MCA president Wee Ka SiongHe said Chua was right in describing Wee as someone who liked to “avoid problems” and said that is how he deals with issues as transport minister.
“When faced with a big issue, he can only answer ‘everyone has parents, do not vent your anger on Wee Ka Siong’.
“The people give us their support in order to elect a leader who is brave enough to face and resolve the rakyat’s issues, not a leader who is only good at talking and neglecting their responsibilities,” Tee said.
He pointed out that he is no longer an elected representative and has no important positions in the party.
“Does the president really intend to expel me from the party? Does the president want to strip me of my regular membership which is now my only relationship with the party?” he questioned.
He urged Wee not to harass his party comrades and to focus on leading the party in the face of adversity and restoring the glory of the party.
“Don’t vent your anger on Tee Siew Kiong as this act does not bring any good to the party and us all,” he said. - Mkini
