MCA secretary-general Chong Sin Woon has hit back at allegations by Pontian MCA chief Tee Siew Kong that two complaints were filed against him by MCA president Wee Ka Siong, leading to hearings before the party’s disciplinary board.
In a statement today, Chong said that Tee (above) and Ledang division chief Goh Tee Tee, who is also being investigated by the disciplinary board, should be familiar with MCA’s principle of collective decision-making.
“From the past until the present, the MCA central committee has always implemented a leadership principle of collective decision-making and collective responsibility.
“As senior grassroots leaders, Tee and Goh would be very familiar with this practice.
“Therefore, it is utterly irresponsible of them to point their fingers at the MCA president,” said Chong.
Chong Sin Woon‘Stir up public opinion’
Chong added that Goh and Tee have attempted to “stir up public opinion” and pressure the disciplinary board, pending their investigation results.
“Such infliction of harm is unjust against the majority of grassroots party members.
“Therefore, I urge the two leaders to exercise self-control and wait for the decision by the disciplinary committee,” he said.
Yesterday, Tee, who is the former Pulai Sebatang assemblyperson, claimed that the two times he had appeared before the party’s disciplinary board were due to complaints that were filed by Wee.
Tee is facing disciplinary action after he accused the MCA leadership, under Wee, of deliberately giving up the Pulai Sebatang seat so that his party rivals won't have a seat to contest in.
Tee, who appeared before the disciplinary board on Saturday, thanked the board's chairperson Han Choon Kim for "hearing the complete truth instead of a one-sided story".
Tee had contested in Pulai Sebatang in every election since 2004.
Tee, who is aligned with former MCA president Chua Soi Lek, had suggested that Wee was trying to purge him.
Chua and Wee were in opposing camps when the former was still the MCA president.
Wee has denied trying to purge party rivals.
He added that Tee's outburst was due to the disappointment of not being able to contest in last month's Johor polls. - Mkini
