Bung Moktar Wants Tighter Security To Prevent Clashes Between 2 Rallies
Kinabatangan MP Bung Moktar Radin urged the police to evaluate the potential security risks of allowing simultaneous rallies at the same location.
PETALING JAYA: Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin has urged the police to tighten security measures following reports of two rallies being planned for Dec 31 outside the Sabah state administration building.
Bung, the Kinabatangan MP, expressed concerns about potential clashes between the two groups.
He urged the police to evaluate the potential security risks of allowing the simultaneous gatherings at the same location.
“If it is true that two gatherings are being planned at the same time and place on Dec 31, then this matter requires serious attention, even if they are intended to be peaceful assemblies,” he was quoted by Buletin TV3 as saying.
He said proactive steps must be taken to prevent any untoward incidents.
“I understand that both gatherings have their own objectives and carry important messages for the people.
“However, all parties must consider every aspect, including the implications for Sabah’s safety and stability.
“Therefore, I urge the police to thoroughly examine this matter and take proactive measures to avert any undesirable outcomes.”
Malaysiakini reported that a Sabah-based student group had announced on Dec 20 that a New Year’s Eve anti-corruption rally would be held outside Menara Kinabalu. This is to ostensibly warn politicians, ahead of the state polls next year, against ignoring the people’s will.
The rally is being organised following a series of videos leaked by a purported whistleblower linking several Sabah assemblymen to an alleged mining scandal.
Social media is also abuzz over a counter rally being held on the same day and at the same venue. Called Himpunan Bangkit Sabahan, it is organised by Sekretariat Himpunan Bangkit Sabahan. - FMT
