Bn Youth Not For Crybabies Akmal Warns Disgruntled Members
BN’s youth wings will not entertain “crybabies” sulking over the coalition’s choice of candidate for the Ayer Kuning by-election.
BN Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh stressed that while it is normal to be disappointed over the lack of a youth candidate in the April 26 by-election, such chagrin should not be unnecessarily prolonged.
“Disappointment is okay and not a problem as we’re humans with emotions.
“However, such feelings should not be used as an excuse to demotivate us... We have a bigger agenda, which is to ensure our BN candidate wins at the polls.
“In the past, if a (party wing) did not get to field a candidate, they would boycott (the election), but now we must be focused on defending BN’s dignity,” Akmal said during a BN Youth event in Tapah, Perak last night.
He suggested that BN Youth members who remain displeased with the chosen candidate meet with him, following which the Umno Youth chief threatened in jest to sunat (circumcise) them.
“I’m a simple person. If you want to ‘merajuk’ (sulk), please see me and I will ‘sunat’ you,” Akmal, who is also the Merlimau assemblyperson, told the crowd, inciting a round of cheers.
“If you want to ‘merajuk’, don’t be part of BN Youth (as) it is not a place for ‘budak kememeh’ (crybabies),” he added.
Candidate in question
BN had previously named Tapah Umno division secretary Yusri Bakir, 54, as its candidate representing the government.
Following the reveal, Perak PAS Youth secretary Nurhafizul Badrul Hisham questioned the apparent contradiction in Umno Youth’s earlier challenge for PN to field a young candidate.

Akmal also assured that Yusri’s candidacy had undergone the required screenings, amid concerns over the latter’s involvement in politics while being a senior public officer.
“Before we choose a candidate, we will definitely analyse all factors.
“If there are any objections (to the candidacy), anyone is welcome to bring up the matter with the Election Commission (EC),” he told reporters at the sidelines of the event.
He said this in response to PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari questioning Yusri’s active involvement in politics while working as a senior civil servant under the Education Ministry.
Resignation letter submitted
Perak BN chief Saarani Mohamad has since confirmed that Yusri has tendered his resignation as head of the Islamic and Moral Education Department at the Ipoh campus of the Institute of Teacher Education.
Saarani, who is also the Perak menteri besar, said Yusri had submitted his resignation letter earlier this week and is awaiting a release letter from the Public Service Department.
The Ayer Kuning by-election was called following the death of incumbent Ishsam Shahruddin, 59, on Feb 22. He was also the Tapah Umno division chief.
The EC has set April 12 as nomination day while early voting is scheduled for April 22. - Mkini
