Bn S Cm Candidate Not Keen On Anwar S Chief Ministerial Debate Idea

MALACCA POLLS | BN’s Sulaiman Md Ali has rejected a proposal by Pakatan Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim for a debate between the chief ministerial candidates of the three major coalitions contesting in the Malacca polls.
Sulaiman (above), who is the caretaker chief minister and has been endorsed by BN to remain in the top job if the coalition wins, told Malaysiakini that he prefers to focus on campaigning, which only has seven days left.
“There is no need (to have a debate). Let’s just get this election done first.
“No need for debate. We want to focus on the (campaign) works we have now,” he told Malaysiakini.
Yesterday, Anwar mooted a televised debate between Harapan’s chief ministerial candidate Adly Zahari and his BN and PN counterparts. Adly was the chief minister from 2018 to 2020.
This was after Communications and Multimedia Minister Annuar Musa indicated that all parties may be given airtime on national airwaves to campaign for the Malacca polls to overcome the strict restrictions on physical campaigning due to Covid-19.
The chief ministerial debate proposal has also highlighted the fact that PN does not have a candidate.
PN, which consists of Bersatu, PAS, Gerakan, Star and SAPP, has been coy about announcing a name.
Bersatu vice-president Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen, who is also Malacca PN and Bersatu chief, is believed to be a front-runner.
Another possible candidate who had been floated is Bersatu’s Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, who is also contesting the state seat of Tanjung Bidara.
Rafiq, when contacted, declined to weigh into the proposed debates.
On PN’s chief ministerial candidate, he told Malaysiakini to wait for PN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin’s announcement. - Mkini
