Bersih Submits Notice Of Assembly Demanding 100pct Reform
Bersih has submitted a notice to hold a protest march and hand over a memorandum calling for 100 percent reform that will take place tomorrow.
Its chairperson Faisal Aziz said the notice was submitted to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.
According to Faisal (above, right), the notice was in response to Kuala Lumpur police chief Allaudeen Abdul Majid's statement last night saying that no notice was filed to inform the authorities about the demonstration.
"The submission of this notice is in response to Allaudeen's statement regarding the issue of notices under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
"I sincerely thank the police for their cooperation and security guarantee for tomorrow's action," he said in a statement on X.
Yesterday, Allaudeen advised the public not to join any rally that violates the law.
"Stern action will be taken according to existing laws," he said.
Bersih’s demands
The electoral watchdog is calling for term limits for the prime minister, enhanced whistleblower protection, and a review of the Sedition Act.
They demanded that the government show its commitment by providing a clear direction and timeline outlining the direction of electoral and institutional reforms.
"We will ensure that the police understand and respect our rights. Both parties need to work together as equal partners to ensure the public safety and smooth running of the event tomorrow.
"It's crucial to remind both the government and the police that our rights to peaceful assembly are protected under Article 10 of the Federal Constitution.
"The role of government and the police is to ensure that the rakyat can exercise our constitutional rights freely and peacefully. There should be no state-imposed restrictions on the event scheduled for tomorrow," Bersih said earlier today. - Mkini
