Bersatu To Notify Dewan Speaker On Rogue Mps Stripped Memberships
Bersatu will inform Dewan Rakyat speaker Johari Abdul in this month’s sitting on six of the party’s elected representatives whose memberships have been terminated.
When contacted, Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal said it would be the next step after the six MPs had refused to comply with an order for all elected representatives to pledge their loyalty to the party.
“Logically, we will write to the Dewan Rakyat speaker that they are stripped of their party memberships.
“It is written in the (party) constitution that they have to be stripped of their memberships (if they do not return a signed supreme council order as a pledge of their loyalty).
“It is just like Umno and DAP’s party constitution... Their membership will automatically be stripped,” Wan Fayhsal (above) told Malaysiakini.
He was responding to queries on the actions taken against the six MPs and two assemblypersons who did not respond to the letter issued by Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin to all of its party members demanding them to affirm their loyalty by Friday (May 31).
Bersatu is seeking to vacate the seats of the turncoat MPs, with party deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu reportedly saying on May 17 that it was doing so by filing a notice to the Dewan Rakyat.
Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah ZainudinHamzah was reportedly instructed to issue the notice following the party’s constitution.
Unsatisfactory replies
The elected representatives in question are those who “switched allegiance” and declared support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
The six MPs are Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan) and Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang).
The two state representatives are Selat Klang assemblyperson Abdul Rashid Asari as well as Azizi who is also Nenggiri assemblyperson.
On Friday, it was reported that a special committee was formed to review the returned orders, including from seven Bersatu lawmakers who threw their support for Anwar.
It was also reported that the replies from the seven were deemed unsatisfactory.
Yesterday, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin warned the party’s elected representatives that refusal to follow supreme council orders will result in an automatic termination of their membership status.
Bersatu president Muhyiddin YassinThis is according to the recently amended Article 10.4 of the party’s constitution, he said in a statement.
“A total of 25 MPs and 58 assemblypersons have signed the letter (order) and returned it to Bersatu’s secretary-general within 14 days.
“We hereby remind that according to Article 10.4 of the party’s constitution, a refusal by any Bersatu elected representatives to obey any instructions from the supreme council, their membership status is nullified with immediate effect,” he added.
In doing so, it will also trigger the anti-hopping law per Article 49A of the Federal Constitution and their seats will be vacated.
