Bersatu Insists Macc Probe Citizenship For 54k China Migrants Claim
Bersatu has demanded the MACC probe allegations that some 54,000 China nationals are in the process of being granted Malaysian citizenship.
This is despite Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and the National Registration Department (NRD) denying the claim.
The allegations first emerged on social media earlier this month, claiming that the China nationals were being granted citizenship to become "DAP voters".
While skirting around the DAP voters allegations, Bersatu information chief Razali Idris said yesterday that a probe must be carried out against Saifuddin, the Home Ministry, and the NRD despite their denials.
"A tree wouldn't sway if there's no wind blowing," Razali (above) said, using a Malay proverb akin to "there's no smoke without fire".
His demands were amplified by PAS in a series of tweets yesterday.
Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution IsmailIn response, Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli urged Saifuddin to lodge a police report against PAS for criminal defamation in perpetuating the citizenship allegation.
"PAS must be held responsible when it continues to lie like this," he said.
— Rafizi Ramli (@rafiziramli) August 28, 2023To this, Razali told Rafizi to not be a "busybody".
"Rafizi, don't meddle in others’ affairs, please focus on your job to recover and save the economy.
"It has been nine months, but we have not seen anything exciting (from you)," the Bersatu information chief said on Facebook today.
Economy Minister Rafizi RamliFair call
In the statement, Razali continued to insist that the MACC probe the allegations.
He also denied that making such calls was defamatory.
Rather, he said demanding an investigation was in line with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's allegations that there were elements of corruption within the NRD and Immigration Department.
Anwar said in July that the corruption involved alleged extortion to fast-track legitimate citizenship applications. - Mkini
