Bersatu Constitution Doesn T Bar Me From Campaigning For Govt Says Rep
Selat Klang assemblyman Abdul Rashid Asari has dismissed claims that the party has sufficient grounds to terminate his membership. (Bernama pic)SHAH ALAM: Bersatu’s Abdul Rashid Asari has rubbished claims that he should have his membership terminated for sharing a stage with Pakatan Harapan leaders in the campaign for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.
The Selat Klang assemblyman said there was nothing in the party’s recently amended constitution saying that he could not campaign for the unity government.
“There is no clause in the party’s constitution that says I can’t share a stage with unity government leaders and give a ceramah. It only states that I can’t join another party,” Rashid told FMT.
Last week, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin said that sharing a stage with Bersatu’s political rivals and delivering a speech against the party were sufficient grounds for the termination of membership.
He said members could not claim to be still supporting the party with such behaviour.
“Think about it, is it logical? Based on our constitution, his actions would see his membership terminated,” he said, referring to Rashid.
Rashid, who voiced support for Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari in March, however insisted that his membership could not be terminated as he had not violated the party’s constitution.
He also said that according to the amended constitution, instructions must be given in written form.
“Until today there is no such written instruction which says I can’t campaign with the unity government, so I’m not in the wrong.” - FMT
