Berjaya Denies Sanusi S Accusations To Take Legal Action

Berjaya Land Berhad has denied all accusations by Kedah caretaker menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor about the Selangor Maritime Gateway (SMG) project.
The company described Sanusi’s remarks as accusatory, false, malicious, and baseless, and as such, it will lodge a police report and take legal action over the matter.
“We feel that it is important to set the facts straight with valid information.
“Our objective is to correct any statement that is inaccurate and confusing as well as ensure that the truth is acknowledged through our explanation,” said Berjaya Land chief executive officer Syed Ali Shahul Hameed in a statement today.
Sanusi was previously reported claiming that Selangor could incur losses to the tune of RM180 million because of the Klang river cleaning project.
He also questioned how Berjaya Group founder Vincent Tan could acquire a significant stake in a Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI-Selangor)-owned firm.
Caretaker Kedah menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md NorIn Berjaya Land’s statement, they denied they acquired shares in any MBI Selangor-linked firm.
The company explained they formed a special purpose vehicle called Landasan Lumayan Berjaya Sdn Bhd (LLBSB) which is a cooperation between MBI Selangor’s subsidiary Landasan Lumayan Sdn Bhd – which has a 45 percent stake in LLBSB – and Berjaya Land Berhad (owns 55 percent of LLBSB).
The SMG project has also received acknowledgement from the Green World Awards 2023 for its efforts in cleaning the Klang river.
Berjaya Land also pointed out that the quality of the water at the Klang river has improved from Class 4 to Class 2.
‘False accusations by Sanusi’
The firm also denied that Selangor would incur up to RM180 million loss from its involvement in the joint venture because the state supposedly gave 600 acres of land to Berjaya Land for free.
They were never given any 600 acres of land for free, the company said, and only 103.6 acres of land were approved for the project development.
The special vehicle company also paid a land premium of RM113.1 million according to the market value for the 103.6 acres of land.
“In conclusion, the false accusations by Sanusi are clearly baseless.
“These statements were made without thinking and are malicious and clearly meant to damage the reputation of Berjaya Land and affect the commitment from us and the state government on developing Selangor.
“I would also like to add that we are taking immediate action by lodging a police report and taking legal action to protect our rights in this matter,” Syed Ali said.
Selangor caretaker menteri besar Amirudin Shari also previously said he will sue Sanusi over the latter’s claims. - Mkini
