PETALING JAYA: Be calm and do your best, Education Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin wishes Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2020 candidates.
With just a day to go before the much delayed exams begin on Monday (Feb 22), he said it is normal to feel anxious and worried.
“What’s important is how we manage this nervousness.
“It is time to keep calm as the exam date draws closer and recognise that the effort you put in is different from that of your peers.
“Just know that you have given your best effort at the end of the day, ” he said, reminding candidates that SPM is not the be all and end all of life.
Mohd Radzi was speaking during an interview session on DidikTV to address SPM 2020 students on Saturday (Feb 20).
SPM 2020 candidates, he said, are a special group of students because of the challenges they faced due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and for sitting for a major exam amid the pandemic.
Assuring parents that the ministry has taken all precautionary measures ahead of the exam, Mohd Radzi said even exam standard operating procedures are different this time around.
“During exams like SPM, the distance between tables would be 0.8m. This time, because of the pandemic, we’ve increased it to 1.5m.
“We have discussed at length on how to ensure the candidates sit for their exam in a safe environment.”
He also said that the marking of the SPM 2020 exam papers will be done online to shorten the period taken to mark exam papers to ensure the release of candidates' results are not delayed any longer and so that they can enter university on time.
The only paper that will not be marked online is Visual Arts.
“We have very dedicated teachers who are committed to ensure the best for their students.
“When the SPM 2020 exam got postponed, teachers who had opted for early retirement requested that their application be delayed so that they could commit themselves to their students, ” he added.
A total of 401,105 SPM 2020 candidates will be sitting for the exams this year.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Examinations Syndicate said there are 3,310 exam centres and 48,014 exam invigilators for the exam.
It reminded candidates to refer to their exam schedule for information on the dates, time, exam codes and papers, and instructions that must be followed during the exam.
“The timetable can be downloaded from our website at http://lp.moe.gov.my.
“Candidates are reminded to bring their identification documents and exam registration statement to the exam centre, ” it said, adding that candidates must comply with the Public Examinations and Central Assessments guideline and the School Management and Operations Under the New Norm 2.0 guideline. - Star
