Battle For Ayer Kuning Seat Begins Tomorrow
The battle for the Ayer Kuning state seat begins tomorrow with the nomination of candidates at Dewan Merdeka.
Each prospective candidate is given an hour, from 9am to 10am, to submit their nomination forms before the list of those eligible to contest is announced by returning officer, Ahmad Redhauddin Ahmad Shokori.
Once the nomination process is complete, candidates have 14 days to campaign to garner votes in the state constituency, which is one of the two state seats under the Tapah parliamentary constituency.
Based on MetMalaysia’s website, the weather throughout the nomination process is expected to be rainy.
According to an Election Commission source, seven nomination forms for the Ayer Kuning by-election were sold at 11am today.
So far, BN, Perikatan Nasional, and PSM have each announced their respective candidates to contest the state seat.

BN’s Yusri BakirBN has named Tapah Umno division secretary Yusri Bakir, 54, as its candidate representing the government.
PN will be fielding Tapah PN chief Abdul Muhaimin Malek, 44, while PSM has nominated its deputy secretary-general Bawani KS, 40.
The Ayer Kuning state by-election is being held following the death of its incumbent, Ishsam Shahruddin, 58, on Feb 22.

Deploying over 1k cops
Meanwhile, Perak police chief Noor Hisam Nordin said a total of 1,114 police officers and personnel from the Perak contingent would be deployed throughout the Ayer Kuning by-election.
He also that 778 officers will be on duty during the nomination process, 732 throughout the campaign period, and the full contingent of 1,114 will be mobilised on polling day.
“We hope that the steps we have taken and the countermeasures identified will help minimise any unwanted incidents,” he said at a press conference on the Perak police preparations for the by-election today.

Hisam also reminded prospective candidates and political parties that the Election Offences Act 1954 and all election-related laws would be enforced throughout the campaign period.
“I would also like to advise everyone - whether contesting parties, their supporters, or members of the public - to always comply with the existing rules and regulations,” he said.
Hisam mentioned that police will implement road diversions and closures from as early as 7am to 12.30pm tomorrow, to facilitate the nomination process.
The affected areas include the main junction to Dewan Merdeka, Jalan Stesen, and the Jalan Raja junction.
