Azmin I M Focused On Economy Don T Provoke With Political Questions
International Trade and Industry (Miti) Minister Azmin Ali reiterated that his focus is on improving the country’s economy rather than talking about politics.
He said this in a press conference with Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail after a joint industry coordination committee meeting with the Pahang government in Kuantan today.
When asked if the meeting had anything to do with the 15th general election, both Azmin (above) and Wan Rosdy denied the matter and said this meeting had been in the plans for a long time.
“I’ve been working for two years now, I do not even know when the general election is and if you take a look, the Pahang menteri besar, the state secretariat, and the officers at Miti are all committed to empowering the economy.
“If we indulge in politics, the victims are the people, those who will be punished are the people, and I do not think it is fair for us to punish the rakyat in a situation where they need support and help from the government.
“Thus, I rarely talk about political issues at Miti and I hope you will also not provoke me with political questions,” he said to reporters today.
Azmin, who is part of Bersatu’s supreme council leadership, sidestepped a question yesterday about him allegedly being the sole name the party submitted as their deputy prime minister candidate.
However, it was said that Putrajaya was hesitant to accept Azmin’s candidacy.
In July, Perikatan Nasional (PN) expressed the party’s disappointment over Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s alleged lack of interest in keeping his promise to them.
Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin reportedly said this prompted PN to send a delegation to meet the Bera MP for talks on Aug 4.
Among the terms in the agreement between PN and the prime minister was to appoint a deputy prime minister from Bersatu. - Mkini
