Azmin Denies Pas Boycotting Pn S Candidate
Selangor Perikatan Nasional chairman Azmin Ali said many PAS MPs and assemblymen have been giving ceramahs ahead of the May 11 by-election.PETALING JAYA: Selangor Perikatan Nasional chairman Azmin Ali has denied that PAS is boycotting the coalition’s candidate for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election, contrary to claims by a PKR leader.
Azmin said PAS election director Sanusi Nor has been on the ground for two days, while PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man is expected to campaign tonight, along with vice-president Idris Ahmad.
“Many PAS MPs and assemblymen have been giving ceramahs,” he told FMT.
PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil had earlier claimed that the PAS leadership was boycotting Hulu Selangor Bersatu acting chief Khairul Azhari Saut who is contesting in the by-election.
“It’s been four days of campaigning and the PAS top leadership has continued to boycott.
“We thought only KFC and Starbucks were being boycotted but it turns out that the PN candidate is also being boycotted,” he was reported as saying.
Meanwhile, P Punithan, the president of the Malaysian Indian People’s Party which was recently made a PN component, also dismissed such claims.
“PAS has been going door-to-door, speaking to voters and doing a lot of groundwork,” he said, adding that Sanusi had been taking part in most of the PN ceramahs.
Punithan then took a swipe at Fahmi, saying the latter should just stick to being the government spokesman.
“He barely knows what we do, so perhaps he can stop spreading fake news.”
The by-election on May 11 will see a four-cornered fight for the state seat that fell vacant following the death of its assemblyman, Lee Kee Hiong of DAP, on March 21 following a battle with cancer.
Khairul will be going up against DAP’s Pang Sock Tao, PRM’s Hafizah Zainuddin and independent Nyau Ke Xin. - FMT
