Azam Denies Agc Dropping Charges Against Mara Corp Officials

The MACC has denied a news report that the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) will drop charges against Mara Corporation Sdn Bhd (Mara Corp) officials due to insufficient evidence.
MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said he has not received any indication that the AGC would do so and stressed that there is enough evidence to charge these officials with corruption.
"We have submitted the file (investigation papers) to the AGC, we proposed that several parties in the case be charged.
"So far there is no information from the AGC saying that this case will not be charged in court. So, I have no (further) comment on this.
"However, as I said, we probed the case and it is our view that there is sufficient evidence to propose a few quarters to be charged," he told reporters at the sidelines of an event.
It was reported in February that the MACC was investigating allegations of power abuse involving allowances for several executives of Mara Corp, the investment arm of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara).
Among the misconduct alleged was that the executives raised their allowances without approval, made double claims, and misused company property such as cars.
The MACC had previously raided Mara headquarters, Mara Corp and the office of a corporate secretary in Kuala Lumpur over allegations against the company's senior official.
The allegations were raised in a document dated Jan 30 that was published by whistleblower Edisi Siasat on their Twitter account on Feb 4.
The probe was conducted under Section 23(1) of the MACC Act regarding abuse of position by a public officer to obtain graft. - Mkini
