Ayob Tells Candidates Not To Make Statements About Threats Without Evidence

STATE POLLS | Deputy Inspector-General of Police Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay has advised election candidates not to make statements claiming to have received threats with no evidence.
However, if they have information and evidence, they should channel it directly to the police to facilitate follow-up action, he said.
“If there is information, pass it on to the police. The police will take action.
“This is not the issue of caretaker Kedah menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor. Anyone can (inform the police). Any candidates who have information about threats seek (help from) the police. We will take action.
“Do not make a statement about any threat without evidence.
(IGP Razarudin Husain) has also pledged to ensure that this election runs smoothly because the police are responsible for security,” he said.
Ayob Khan told reporters this after surveying the early voting process at the Selangor police contingent headquarters today.
He was responding to the alleged threats received by Sanusi.
Meanwhile, Ayob Khan again warned all parties, especially the candidates, not to touch on the 3R issue of race, religion and royalty when campaigning in the state elections in the six states.
The Aug 12 state elections involve 36 state seats in Kedah; 45 in Kelantan, 32 in Terengganu, 40 in Penang, 56 in Selangor and 36 in Negeri Sembilan.
In a related development, Ayob Khan said Selangor police have received 518 reports in connection with the state elections as of Sunday (Aug 6), with 20 investigation papers opened.
Commenting on today’s early voting in Selangor, Ayob Khan was confident that voter turnout among police personnel and officers would be higher than the 97 percent recorded in the 15th general election.
