DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said he does not mind being the target of MCA attacks in politics, but reminded the latter against jeopardising the future generations
The remarks came following recent criticisms hurled at him over the issue of government aid for two MCA-owned universities Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Utar)
"I have told MCA that if they want to get angry, get angry at me. It is okay
"If you see, he (MCA president Wee Ka Siong) gets in the newspaper every day, blowing his top over me (dia marah sama saya)," Lim said in his speech at the DAP Youth congress in Serdang Jaya today
"Especially in the Chinese papers, he gets bigger space than me; maybe to those who do not know, they might think that Wee Ka Siong is the finance minister, not Lim Guan Eng
"But that's okay. I am ready to face (the attacks) because we are speaking about our future generations. But do not burden our children," he stressed
The finance minister had been the target of MCA attacks since last month, when the DAP leader said that MCA should cut ties with the universities before the government would provide them with more allocations.MCA deputy president Mah Hang Soon branded the ultimatum as a form of political vengeance against the party
Meanwhile, on MCA saying that he should resign from his cabinet post for saying that he is not a Chinese, Lim said this was why playing up racial sentiment should not be allowed in the country
He said he was merely saying that he did not see himself as a Chinese but as a Malaysian when appointed to lead the finance ministry
"Is that wrong? But for MCA it is. This's why we should not allow the playing up of racial sentiment," he said. - Mkini
