Asset Declaration Mirzan Gets Extension None For Mokhzani Yet
Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s son Mirzan has been given a 30-day extension to declare his assets to MACC.
MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said this was after the businessperson requested more time to comply with the order issued to him and his brother Mokhzani under Section 36 of the MACC Act, which required the pair to declare their assets within 30 days.
However, Azam said there has been no extension granted to Mokhzani (above, left) as yet.
"Yes, we did allow an extension. Another 30 days," he told Malaysiakini.
"This is only for Mirzan. I think Mokhzani has yet to be given an extension. Just Mirzan for now," he added.
The original notice period was supposed to expire sometime in the middle of this month.
MACC chief commissioner Azam BakiMACC called up Mirzan and Mokhzani for questioning last month, although the exact nature of their investigation is unclear.
On Feb 6, Azam warned that if the brothers failed to respond within the stipulated time, the pair could face criminal charges.
Following this, the brothers issued a statement asking "for patience and understanding", saying that collating 43 years' worth of information is an "impossible endeavour".
According to them, MACC has requested a list of assets going back to 1981, the year Mahathir became prime minister.
The brothers also called for restraint when commenting on this case to avoid misrepresentation or prejudgment.
“Especially when we have not been informed of the specifics of the investigation other than it pertains to our father,” they said. - Mkini
