Armed Forces Pension Fund Workers Demand Salary Arrears
Over 100 employees picketed outside the Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT) building in Kuala Lumpur today, claiming its management ignored their various demands.
They said the picket is due to the LTAT management’s refusal to pay salary adjustment arrears for over two years.
The adjustments were made through a revision of the salary scheme, which came into effect on Jan 1, 2020.
LTAT Workers Union (KKLTAT) president Zulharith Shahrizzan Kumar Abdullah told reporters the picket will be held every day starting today until Friday (July 29), from 1pm until the evening.
Today’s picket was held in front of the LTAT building at Jalan Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur and was also attended by Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) president Effendy Abdul Ghani.
Zulharith said they are picketing to draw the attention of the LTAT management who has disregarded issues raised by the union, by not giving a concrete answer nor siding with the workers.
“Picketing is the best way to make the LTAT management aware that the KKLTAT’s role is not for personal interests but it is to fight for the welfare of sidelined workers.
“The management of LTAT did not discuss or negotiate together and has ignored all of KKLTAT’s views on the demands that were raised,” he said.
Zulharith added that the management’s efforts to cancel today’s picket were unsuccessful after the union disagreed with the offers given by the management.
He said the LTAT management held a meeting with them around 11am today and made several offers in order for the picket to be cancelled.

“So we decided to proceed with the picket,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mohd Effendy said the LTAT management needs to take into account the welfare of its workers.
“I believe this is the reason why the prime minister recently made a statement saying all GLCs (government-linked companies) and GLICs (government-linked investment companies) should appoint MTUC representatives as board members in an effort to add value to transparency.
“If the management fails to fulfil the demands of the LTAT workers before this Friday, MTUC will bring this matter to the prime minister,” he said.
