Anwar Urged To Explain Alleged Jac Leak Amid Calls For Probe
Opposition leaders have pressed Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to address the alleged leak of a Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) meeting minutes, cautioning that failure to clarify claims of judicial interference could cost him his job.
PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari highlighted that the alleged excerpts from the classified document are deeply concerning and carry serious implications for judicial integrity and the prime minister’s position.
“The prime minister is urged to immediately come forward and provide an open explanation to the people,” the Pasir Mas MP said in a Facebook post today.
“If the allegations (detailed in the alleged leak) are true and cannot be refuted with clear, conclusive facts, then the prime minister should resign immediately.
“His position would no longer align with the principles of integrity, trust, and constitutional supremacy that form the foundation of the nation’s administrative system,” he added.
He also warned all within the judiciary, particularly senior judges, against colluding with any efforts seeking to undermine the justice system.
“When justice is eventually served, it will not recognise anyone’s rank or position. Anyone involved in attempts to taint the judiciary will still be held accountable,” he asserted.
Alleged minutes exposed
Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that an alleged excerpt of a JAC meeting minutes from May appears to have been leaked on social media.
The minutes, which are classified, supposedly contain allegations similar to a leaked police report lodged on behalf of a senior judge in June.
ADSThe police report was made after Malaysiakini contacted the judge on June 12, seeking comment on allegations that the judge was accused of judicial interference during a JAC meeting the previous month.
The allegations against the senior judge, as well as concerns about alleged interference in the appointment of judges after Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat retired as chief justice, have since sparked widespread outrage.
Last week, nine PKR lawmakers led by Rafizi Ramli called for a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) as well as the Parliament Special Select Committee on reforms to probe the allegations.
‘Cancerous cell’
Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz said that if the contents of the allegedly leaked JAC document are found to be authentic, the crisis of confidence against Anwar’s leadership is akin to a “cancerous cell” infecting the judiciary - an institution that should remain free from political and executive influence.
“If this document is true, with the judiciary now tainted, the people no longer have a place to depend on for fair and impartial justice.

Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz“Anwar has failed to uphold the independence of institutions and has now become the cause of the people’s crisis of confidence towards the entire system of the country,” Tun Faisal claimed in a Facebook post last night.
Calling for an independent and transparent investigation into the contents of the supposed JAC meeting minutes, he reiterated appeals for the public to take part in the Himpunan Turun Anwar rally scheduled for July 26.
“All of us as Malaysians have a responsibility to stop this raging cancer that is infecting the entire system of our nation and to save this beloved country of ours,” he added.
The Malaysian Bar is also set to march on Monday to hand over a memorandum to the prime minister, calling for an RCI, among other demands.
The Attorney-General’s Chambers had earlier downplayed concerns about the judiciary, insisting that the allegations against the senior judge were merely pure speculation about “procedural irregularities”. - Mkini
