Anwar Sarawak Pkr Given Leftovers Yet Called Greedy
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has lamented that his party was labelled as greedy when it only received leftovers while Sarawak seats were being divided.
He said PKR was only given unwinnable seats that others did not want.
"The seats that are more competitive are being demanded by all these parties.
"But the seats that they have no base, no hope for these parties (they say) 'Ok PKR better contest (there) otherwise you'll allow GPS to win uncontested' and we are burdened with this.
"People perceive that PKR is greedy. (But) we are fighting for seats that we can win, category A (seats). But we are given seats that are category F," he told reporters in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan today.
He relented, however, that PKR does have to contest in some of these more difficult seats because they have a bigger presence than other parties.
He said this while explaining why PKR is fielding fewer candidates in the upcoming Sarawak state election.
Sarawak PKR was allocated 47 seats to contest in the state during negotiations with DAP earlier this year.
However, it later demanded more seats to contest - which DAP refused to budge on.
After making no gains in their push for more seats, PKR instead chose to contest in fewer seats.
Anwar said they may contest between 28 or 29 seats only this time around so that the party's machinery is not spread too thin.
PKR previously won three seats in the 2016 Sarawak elections.
However, all their representatives defected from the party last year following the Sheraton Move, with two reps joining PSB, and another joining Bersatu. - Mkini
