Anwar Kl Tolls Can Be Renegotiated When Country S Finances Strong
Tolls in Kuala Lumpur can be renegotiated when the country’s finances become stronger, said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Speaking at a forum, he agreed with an audience member who stated that there were too many tolls in the capital.
“(The issue of) toll is something I inherited. But in the matter of tolls, when we close them, we have to spend. There are standard agreements.
“I agree with you. Many people have complained about the tolls in Kuala Lumpur. What do we do now? But it takes time.
“The country’s finances must be strong and only then can we renegotiate. Right now, we are bound to agreements with the toll companies,” he said during the forum at the Central Zone Madani Rakyat programme closing ceremony at Kuala Selangor Sports Complex.
Prime Minister Anwar IbrahimAnwar joked that Malaysia has one of the most excellent records in the world when it comes to tolls.
In April 2022, Putrajaya structured a deal to take over four Gamuda Bhd-linked highways, namely the Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas), Smart Tunnel, Sprint Highway, and the Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP).
The move was designed to prevent toll charges from being raised until the end of the respective concession periods.
Remuneration scheme
Anwar said there was no reason not to review the public servants’ remuneration scheme while praising their performance in providing services to the people.
He attributed the crowd at the event to the quality of services provided by civil servants who have been infused with the “Madani spirit”.
“If we see the civil servants’ performance like this, from the highest levels to the lowest, there is no reason why we cannot revise the remuneration scheme this year,” he said.
Even though the administration has financial constraints and economic problems, the finance minister said it was important to revise the remuneration scheme as there had been no changes in over a decade.
The remuneration scheme covers salaries, increments, and allowances for civil servants. - Mkini
