Anwar Gives Last Warning To Extremists Playing Up 3r Issues
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is giving a final warning to “extremists” who play up the 3R issues of race, royalty, and religion.
He said the police and the Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) are continuing to monitor the alleged extremists, and no party will escape legal action.
“The MCMC and the police will monitor everyone without exception. It is not an issue whether the extremist is a Malay, is of high stature, or (spoke) in Mandarin or Tamil.
“If the laws and regulations are violated, if the Constitution is challenged and the seeds of discord are sown; the consensus is, not only in the government or within the party, but even in discussions in the Conference of Rulers – that the country must be saved from those who are so desperate to hold onto power that they are willing to sacrifice the people’s interests and bring chaos and disunity,” he said.
The premier was speaking to reporters after chairing a Unity Government Leadership Consultative Council meeting at Menara Dato Onn, Kuala Lumpur, tonight.
He said this when asked about certain quarters that issued statements impinging on 3R issues.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim“I as prime minister have no choice due to pressure from those who can think, and because defending national security takes precedence over (vested) interests.
“This is because certain people feel their position is too high and mighty such that they could never be prosecuted or challenged.
“The country can’t be like that. We can’t look and choose position, rank, pedigree, or wealth; if we do, it is damaging,” he added.
‘Blind eye for decades’
Anwar said he takes a serious view of extremists who play up 3R issues since decades ago.
“The country cannot last and be stable if we allow these small and very desperate elements who would do anything just to defend power or spread influence.
“I think the situation has become so serious because we have turned a blind eye to it for decades and did not act against extreme statements.
“So, that is my message for now. That means it is the final warning from the government,” he said.
On Sunday, the police confirmed receiving several reports against DAP chairperson Lim Guan Eng for allegedly touching on 3R issues.
DAP chairperson Lim Guan EngHe was reported to have said that Perikatan Nasional will destroy Buddhist or Chinese temples in Penang, which he denied. China Press issued a clarification saying MalaysiaNow had mistranslated Lim’s quotes.
Police also confirmed that PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang is being investigated for claiming that DAP intends to retain the meaning of Islam in the Federal Constitution based on the British colonialists’ interpretation, which upholds liberalism and freedoms espoused by Western countries. - Mkini
