Anwar Feel Betrayed No More Harapan Has A New Chief
The people do not have to worry about being betrayed by Pakatan Harapan anymore as the coalition has a new "chief", said Anwar Ibrahim.
According to the Harapan chairperson, the coalition no longer involves "the old ones", and pledged that the previous promises made will be fulfilled as much as possible.
"Harapan ruled Malaysia for 22 months, compared to BN's 60 years... I'm not defending the 22 months, but I say ‘good’ when something is good, and I call it ‘bad’ when something is bad.
"But the Harapan chief now is not the ‘old one’. The chief who is saying all this (15th general election manifesto) is me, Anwar," the incumbent Port Dickson MP said at the Jelajah Nadi Rakyat programme in Tapah, Perak, last night.
His remark was in response to criticisms by Harapan's political opponents that the coalition's rule only lasted for 22 months - before it was toppled by defections in the Sheraton Move.
Dr Mahathir Mohamad was the prime minister and Harapan chairperson from 2018 until the coalition’s ouster from Putrajaya in 2020.
Harapan was previously criticised for not fulfilling pledges listed in its election manifesto.
Mahathir also once said that Harapan need not adhere to the manifesto, saying the manifesto was just a guide and not a holy book.
On that note, Anwar lambasted Harapan's opponents for running out of ammo to attack the coalition, apart from the "22-month of unfulfilled promises" narrative.
The event was attended by more than 700 people. Also present were PKR vice-presidents Chan Lih Kang and K Saraswathy, as well as incumbent Sungai Siput MP S Kesavan.
For the record, Tapah is a BN stronghold, and Malaysiakini understands that its incumbent MP M Saravanan, who is also MIC deputy president, will be fielded again there this coming election. - Mkini
