Anti Icerd Rally Organisers Urge Agong To Sack Ag
The pro-Islam Gerakan Pembela Ummah (Ummah) NGO has urged the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong and the Malay Rulers' Council to sack Tommy Thomas as the attorney-general
The group's spokesperson Kamaruzaman Mohamad claimed this was necessary because the country needed an attorney-general who was "more sensitive" towards preserving the sanctity of Islam
Among the areas which Kamaruzaman alleged Thomas had failed in was prosecuting those responsible for the death of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim and those who insulted the Prophet Muhammad
"If we allow the attorney-general to sit there, I'm sure the situation will get worse," said Kamaruzaman, who is also the Putrajaya PAS division head
He said this after his group lodged a police report in Kuala Lumpur against two individuals who allegedly insulted Islam on their respective Facebook pages
Although the police have prosecuted several individuals for making inflammatory statements on social media, Umno and PAS leaders have repeatedly claimed that the authorities are doing nothing or are dragging their feet.
The cause of Adib's death is currently being investigated by a Coroner's Court. Adib had died after succumbing to injuries sustained while on duty during a riot at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ 25 in Selangor
Kamaruzaman, whose group is in a coalition of Muslim NGOs, said there appears to be more cases of insults against Islam because of a lack of enforcement
"It is as though there is a concerted effort to cause racial tensions. I'm sure someone is benefitting from this. We urge the police to take action before the situation gets worse," he said. - Mkini
