Umno Pas Warn Rally If No Action Over Insulting Prophet Muhammad
Umno Youth and PAS Youth have threatened to hold another mega rally unless the Attorney-General's Chambers takes swift action to press charges against a senior citizen who had allegedly insulted Prophet Muhammad through a Facebook post
They urged the authorities to rearrest and charge the 68-year-old man who was released on police bail on Friday
"We will not hesitate to once again mobilise the people for a peaceful rally in Kuala Lumpur and across the country to express our dissatisfaction if there was found to be any double standard or lackadaisical approach towards a 'criminal' who insulted Islam and the Prophet Muhammad SAW," Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki (above) and PAS Youth chief Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi said in a statement today
"His action not only hurt the feelings but also stoked the anger of Muslims in Malaysia
"In fact, his action clearly constitutes a chargeable offence under Section 298A of the Penal Code that carries a mandatory prison sentence of up to five years," they added
Pahang police chief Mohd Zakaria Ahmad on Feb 19 said the man was picked up by a team of police officers at his house in Mentakab and handed over to Batu Pahat police where a report had been lodged against him
He was served with a three-day remand order to facilitate investigations and has since been released on police bail
Both Asyraf and Khalil urged the police to release the status of their current investigations against the man, and press charges as a signal that such alleged attempts to insult the Prophet will not be tolerated. - Mkini
