Annuar Those Who Are Uncomfortable Now Will Understand My Position Later
While some Umno leaders have expressed their dissatisfaction with the stance and statements of recently discarded BN secretary-general Annuar Musa, he said that in time, his actions would be understood.
Although he did not provide details in his post on Facebook, Annuar made the cryptic remark after he was said to have made comments that tarnished the party's image besides attacking president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
"They may not be comfortable with my stance, but I am sure many will eventually begin to understand.
"I'm not going to give up being a bridge across a ravine to narrow the gap between Malay leaders so that they can unite to defend the interests of the people," said the Keterah MP.
On Jan 5, Annuar was sacked as BN secretary-general and replaced by Ahmad Maslan who is also Umno secretary-general.
A day later, he held a press conference, during which he revealed that Ahmad Zahid conspired with opposition leaders, PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and DAP to replace the Perikatan Nasional government.
He also said that Ahmad Zahid had penned his support for Anwar Ibrahim to topple the Perikatan Nasional Plus government on Oct 11.
He told the hour-long press conference that he had verified the existence of Zahid's letter on this with various sources.
"The letter mentioned toppling the present federal government, changing the prime minister and promised loyalty to Anwar.
"We (as a party) never discussed this. The (Umno) supreme council never discussed this because we wanted to avoid a bigger calamity.
"This is my main contention with (the BN) chairperson (Zahid). The grassroots don't know," he added.
Annuar also claimed that PAS had proposed that Muafakat Nasional partnership between PAS and Umno be registered, but Umno had rejected this.
Several other Umno leaders such as Umno supreme council member Puad Zarkashi and ex-premier Najib Abdul Razak have criticised Annuar's actions.
Puad Zarkashi described Annuar as showing his true character because he was "trashing" the party president.
Meanwhile, Najib, who is also the former Umno president, said if they were dissatisfied with the party's decision, individuals within the party could voice their dissatisfaction through party channels instead of aggravating the situation by holding a press conference. - Mkini
