Annuar Reveals 7 Reasons Why Umno Is Angry With Perikatan Nasional
(FMT) – Umno’s Annuar Musa has listed seven reasons which led to a split in the party over its ties with Perikatan Nasional (PN).
In a Facebook post, Annuar, the former Barisan Nasional secretary-general, said he had often thought about when things “went wrong” and the contributing factors.
He listed the following “answers”:
When Umno became part of the Cabinet, some were disappointed they were not chosen.
The appointment of some leaders’ proteges to the Cabinet instead of the leaders.
When court cases of some Umno leaders did not go their way and they felt the government was not helping them.
After a “secret” meeting before the Sabah election, when there was an attempt to topple the government, followed by an oath of allegiance to oppositIon leader Anwar Ibrahim on Oct 11, which went against the party’s “No Anwar, No DAP” stand.
Since another “secret” meeting on Oct 17 at a house in Ampang, Selangor, involving Umno and Pakatan Harapan leaders and other subsequent discussions to topple the government.
After the failed attempt to “pull the rug from under” the PN-led government (an apparent reference to some Umno MPs withdrawing their support for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin), leading to a state of emergency being declared in January.
The push for Umno divisions to reject cooperation with PPBM in the next election, a strategy to ensure the success of a “new alignment” leaning towards cooperation with PH.
Annuar, a strong supporter of cooperation with PPBM, said there are plans for the upcoming Umno annual general assembly to serve as the platform to cancel the “original alignment”, which was decided by the party’s supreme council.
“As a result, a clash between the two schools of thought among leaders and divisions happened.
“The ‘new alignment’ leans towards working with Pakatan Harapan versus the ‘original alignment’ which leans towards cooperation with PN,” he said
Last year, it was reported that 147 of the 191 Umno divisions had rejected cooperation with PPBM in the coming election, and would only support the PN-led government until Parliament is dissolved.
More recently, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the party will not cooperate with PPBM in the next general election, though Perlis and Sabah Umno have taken an opposing stand.
