Annuar Could Be Right And Wrong
WHEN Annuar Musa became the target of bad disposition on the social media over the past few days, I summarised that was because he didn't properly explained the 'hidden substance' behind his FB posting about the plans by some parties to tweak good relations between Umno and Bersatu, and the sentiment of Umno grassroots toward his remark.
At the same time, his media team has not produced much to counter the trash talk about the Federal Territory Minister who is also the secretary-general of Barisan Nasional. This made him a villain to Umno from the blind spot because he did not even show his concern for Umno-Pas relationship.
After talking to a few analysts, I also summed up Annuar's intention as 'saving Umno should Pas breakaway from Muafakat Nasional it cemented with Umno in September last year, or should the Islamic party fails the largest Malay party in some ways.
In other words, Umno will still have Bersatu or PPBM as a Malay party should something like that were to happen. His worries about the possibility stands, and that such benefits of the doubt should augur well for Umno, at least for the 15th general election.
Why did he say that? For all we know, he was being accused of being a Bersatu spokesperson in Umno, and that he was doomed as going against his party's stand that support for PM Muhyiddin Yassin and his Perikatan Nasional will stop at GE15. Didn't president Zahid Hamidi has reiterated that Umno's participation in PN is only until GE15? Has that changed?
Some comments even went a bit further by suggesting that he quits Umno and join Bersatu instead, which I believe will never happen, at least for now as he is very supportive and protective of Zahid.
So, why the trash talk about him? In some degree, he deserves the bashing in in some, he didn't, depending on the nature of sentiments from the ground and how Umno members perceive it.
Let me give my downright opinion about Umno-Bersatu and Umno-Pas. Annuar Musa, as the former Umno secretary-general before appointed to the Cabinet, should understands better.
Umno and Bersatu can form a solid pact in PN together with Pas and others. Umno, being the single largest party in PN is not treated as 'equal partner' as the key portfolios went to Bersatu. In Sabah, we were 'screwed' when Bersatu planted Independent candidates at areas contested by Umno. It was also Umno who 'gave away' some constituencies for Bersatu to contest for the first time.
Umno-Bersatu relations now are bad as there are factions in Bersatu trying to demolish Umno and BN, luring Umno Members of Parliament to join them and so on. Muhyiddin did not do anything to help Zahid in his legal battle, and let alone saying a single 'thank you' to Umno ever since he became prime minister.
No need to elaborate, Annuar knows better.
And now, what about Umno-Pas? Maybe some of Pas leaders made belittling remarks about Umno, in or outside the Parliament but they still want to strengthen Muafakat Nasional and no way that they will turn their back on Umno.
Umno, Bersatu and Pas are all Malay-Islamic parties. Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Mat said yesterday that Pas will not abandon MN although the party is now a PN component. I think I trust him. After being 'cheated' in Sabah election, I see that Pas and Umno are working more closely to fill up the vacuum in Muafakat Nasional.
Annuar has somehow hurt the feeling of many Umno members, and maybe leaders too. Why, because he failed to make people understand him. His intention is good. Maybe his media team has also failed him.
I want to understand him...
