Amirudin Would You Rather Zafrul Jump To Pn
Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari is keeping an open mind about the possibility of Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz joining PKR.
He said that parties within the coalition government must look at the bigger picture when discussing the matter.
“We must discuss properly, which is better. He (Zafrul) jumps to PN or remains within the coalition government.
“That is something we must see through the ‘big framework’ and not be influenced by the demands of certain groups,” he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian today.
He added that politicians must not lose sight of the “big framework”, to avoid a repeat of the previous Pakatan Harapan government’s collapse.
Zafrul yesterday confirmed that he had approached PKR about the possibility of joining, but has not yet made a decision.
He also dismissed speculation that he would be replacing Amirudin (above) as menteri besar.
Next move
Zafrul - who is the Kota Raja Umno division chief - is said to be eyeing his next move ahead of his term as senator expiring next December.
Tengku Zafrul Abdul AzizAs a senator, Zafrul is not subjected to the anti-hopping law, which only applies to MPs.
Umno has voiced strong objections to the prospect of Zafrul jumping ship, calling it poaching.
Commenting further, Amirudin said Zafrul’s talks with PKR have been informal thus far and have not been discussed with the central leadership or the political bureau.
Amirudin also reiterated that he will be sticking around as menteri besar until 2028.
“Many fortune tellers thought I would not be menteri besar since 2020 when the Sheraton Move happened, saying ‘Amir you’re finished, you’ll be dropped’.
“In the state election, many also said I would be out, packing up. Alhamdulillah, I stayed humble and grateful and was given the mandate and trust by the parties.
“So, believing in fortune tellers can be deviant,” he said.
‘Avoid instability’
Meanwhile, Selangor Harapan information chief Abbas Salimi Che Adzmi @ Azmi reportedly said reports about Zafrul potentially becoming menteri besar have caused unease among people in Selangor.
He said Selangor has made strides under Amirudin’s administration and urged for any action that disrupts the state’s political stability to be halted.
“Selangor is known as a developed state and is the largest contributor to Malaysia's GDP. The progress of Selangor is the result of political stability in Selangor and the people's trust in continuing to support the Pakatan and unity government during the last state election,” The Star quoted him as saying. - Mkini
