Amid Omicron Fears Govt Invites Crowds To Mark 100 Days Of Keluarga Malaysia
The government has called for crowds to liven up a four-day event next week to mark 100 days of "Keluarga Malaysia" at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC)
This is amid concerns that the Omicron variant will cause an upsurge of Covid-19 while the Health Ministry had advised the public to avoid crowded places to curb its spread.
"Jom ramai-ramai (Come let's all) liven up the 100 Days of Keluarga Malaysia Aspirations event," the Communications and Multimedia Ministry said in an SMS broadcast to the public today.
The event from Dec 9 to 12 has various exciting programmes in store, the ministry said.
According to the Keluarga Malaysia Twitter account, the programme features, among others, performances, entrepreneur booths, a gallery of government achievements, an esports competition, and even a lucky draw with a Proton X50 as the top prize.
A promo for the event was also retweeted by the Health Ministry.
In a separate tweet, the Health Ministry urged the public to avoid crowded places and confined spaces in order to prevent spreading Covid-19.
Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has called on the public to keep calm and not panic over the Omicron variant.
However, he has repeatedly stressed Covid-19 procedures and social distancing measures must be adhered to, including to avoid crowded spaces.
There has been one Omicron case detected in Malaysia thus far, but the case had been contained with the patient infected and all close contacts quarantined. No close contacts have tested positive for Covid-19 and all have tested negative after the quarantine period.
Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob had previously put his cabinet on a 100-day timeline to prove their worth.
The cabinet began counting the 100 days from Sept 1 and Ismail Sabri will be delivering the report card on Dec 9. - Mkini
