Amanah Youth Sets Eyes On Grade A Seats For Ge15
Amanah Youth has demanded that its party be fair in the distribution of parliamentary seats for the upcoming 15th general election.
Its chief, Hasbie Muda, insisted today that the youth wing be allocated "Grade A" seats in GE15 - also known as winnable seats.
"Some of our friends have expressed disappointment because the party occasionally gives up 'Grade A' seats, but the youth wings are given national service seats.
"So, if our friends can be given 'Grade A' seats, the (Amanah) youth wing would also like to be given the same grade," he said during the National Amanah Youth Convention 2022 in Seremban today.
Hasbie added that the youth wing was prepared to face all challenges before them to qualify as candidates.
However, he admitted that it was a bit odd when other parties had their demands easily met in the past.
"However, when we look at our friends who pave their way without (cutting) weeds, it feels a little strange," he said without further explanation on the matter.
In the recent Johor state election, Amanah stepped aside for Muda to contest in the Bersatu-held seat of Puteri Wangsa.
Muda deputy president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz went on to win the seat with a 7,114-vote majority.
However, Hasbie stressed that there was no easy way to gain youth votes just by cooperating with a party of youth.
It is believed that the Amanah Youth chief was referring to Muda's desire to collaborate with Harapan in the GE15.
Hasbie opined that it was more critical for Amanah to focus on capturing the hearts of the youth.
"The fact is, there is no shortcut to getting the youth voters by just absorbing or attracting parties under our big tent.
"The face or image of the Amanah party itself needs to be fresh to attract the hearts of young people and the various segments to support us," he said.
Hasbie added that besides the challenge of winning youth votes, recapturing Malay voters is very important and critical.
"Umno, PAS and Bersatu will continue to use the Malay-Muslim threat to convince the rakyat to reject Harapan. They have no capital in terms of integrity, in terms of good governance, in terms of success in developing the country, they have no record," he said.
Also present at the Amanah Youth Convention today were PKR Youth leader Adam Adli, DAP Youth leader Dr Kelvin Yii and Muda vice-president Zaidel Baharuddin. - Mkini
