Amanah Man Ponders Why Pas Lawmakers Not Rallying Behind Terengganu Mb

Terengganu Amanah leader Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah Raja Ahmad today pondered aloud why no state PAS lawmakers have publicly pledged support for Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.

This comes after Samuri's office lodged a police report on June 1 against a news organisation for reporting there was an alleged ongoing attempt to oust him.

In a statement today, Kamarul said although PAS leaders tried to blame the opposition for starting the rumours, what is more important now is for the 21 PAS lawmakers to pledge support for Samsuri if all is well.

"Terengganu Umno has issued a statement denying their involvement (in the alleged plot), while not stating their backing for Samsuri to lead as menteri besar.

"What is more strange is that the PAS lawmakers are not saying anything about backing Samsuri," said Kamarul.

Kamarul said if there was an attempt to replace Samsuri, the replacement can only come from PAS by virtue of the party's numbers in the Terengganu legislative assembly.

PAS controls 22 seats in the state assembly. The remaining 10 seats are controlled by Umno. There is no opposition in the assembly.

Samsuri, 50, was once a political secretary to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang. During the 2018 elections, Samsuri was fielded as the PAS candidate for the Ru Rendang state seat, which Hadi previously held for seven terms.

Yesterday, Samsuri told Astro Awani that he was still the menteri besar when asked about speculation that there was an attempt to oust him.

"When I woke up today, I'm still the menteri besar, although there are pictures of 10 other candidates circulating. It's changing every hour.

"I don't think this has happened. Let the police investigate (our report)," he said. - Mkini
