Amanah Election Issue Youth Chief Admits Sharing Wrong Info
Amanah Youth chief Hasbie Muda has admitted his mistake in sharing inaccurate internal information that led to confusion during the party’s recent national convention.
He explained that the misunderstanding arose from misinterpreting discussions at a central leadership meeting about a proposal to postpone the party elections.
He said the issue was indeed raised at the meeting, but only under the final agenda item, “other matters”.
“It was discussed as a suggestion after several committee members expressed agreement to delay the elections. But it was not an official decision,” he told Malaysiakini.
“I misunderstood and shared the inaccurate information in the Terengganu Amanah committee WhatsApp group.”
The information he shared was believed to have circulated among members and leaders, triggering tension at the party’s annual convention in Shah Alam, Selangor, last weekend.

Amanah national convention 2025Hasbie, who is also a senator, stressed that all members should now refer to the party’s official clarification, particularly the statement issued by Amanah communications director Khalid Samad at the end of the convention.
He was responding to a question from Kuala Terengganu Amanah member Mohamed Ali, who sought clarification over a screenshot showing Hasbie claiming the party had agreed to postpone its upcoming elections.
Tension at convention, two motions accepted
The Sunday morning session turned tense when several delegates demanded that motions concerning party elections be debated immediately.
Two motions on the issue were tabled - one supporting the postponement and another rejecting it. Both were accepted but not debated.
The confusion forced permanent chairperson Azhar Abd Shukur to calm the floor with the help of the party’s security team, after which the session resumed without further incident.
The proposed postponement was seen as sensitive as it affects the party’s electoral strategy ahead of the next general election, while the party constitution limits the presidency to two terms.
This means Amanah president Mohamad Sabu may not be able to continue in the role once the next election is held.
During the winding-up session, Khalid clarified that no decision had been made on the party election date, which is due next year.

Amanah communications director Khalid Samad“There has been no meeting yet to discuss it. Why? Because we don’t know when the general election will be held.
“According to the constitution, the leadership has the power to decide on a postponement, so we’ll review it next year.
“No one has decided to postpone it, and no one has decided to proceed - not yet,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, Amanah secretary-general Faiz Fadzil said the resolutions committee had met and accepted both motions as proposals.
“The committee has accepted both motions as suggestions.
“Since the motions have been accepted, there’s no need for further debate. The timing of the elections will depend on our electoral strategy.
“What’s most important is ensuring the party wins the next general election and continues governing with Pakatan Harapan and the unity coalition,” he said. - Mkini
