Aman Palestin Hauls Macc To Court Over Frozen Accounts

Aman Palestin Berhad has filed for a judicial review of the MACC’s freezing of 41 bank accounts belonging to it and other entities involving money amounting to RM15 million.
Its lawyer Rafique Rashid said they applied for a judicial review (ex parte) against MACC and the Malaysian government.
“Until today, two letters dated Nov 27, 2023 and Jan 9, 2024 have been sent to the MACC appealing and requesting consideration for the accounts of Aman Palestin to be unfrozen for the purpose of financial aid being sent directly to the victims of war violence in Palestine.
“The MACC did not respond. The humanitarian crisis is worsening and hundreds are dying every day,” said Rafique.
The freeze was over an investigation into the misuse of donation money and was made under the MACC Act 2009, the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorist Financing, and Proceeds from Illegal Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA 2001), and the Penal Code (Act 574).
“MACC has also recorded statements from several witnesses and initial investigations revealed several instances of misappropriation, including RM70 million channelled to purposes other than the objectives of the establishment of the company,” said MACC at the time.
Aman Palestin was established in 2004 to channel humanitarian efforts and collect funds for Palestinians affected by the Israeli occupation.
Today it quoted the death toll due to the conflict in Gaza as having reached 26,751 people, 10,000 of whom are children, while another 65,636 people are injured.
“Aid and humanitarian campaigns must continue no matter what happens. Aman Palestin Berhad is no stranger to this humanitarian aid in Gaza, Palestine and also across areas near Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen.
“Aman Palestin Berhad submits this matter to the judicial system to reach the truth and as a step to clear its name from evil slander and false allegations of embezzlement of RM70 million which it denies,” the lawyer added. - Mkini
